United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’s Youth Climate Report

The Youth Climate Report is a multilinear, interactive, database documentary film project using a platform of a Geographic Information System (GIS) map showcasing 1,000+ videos of climate research produced by youth from around the world. A partner program of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the project was first introduced to the UN in 2011 as a linear, one-hour documentary film incorporating five to six video reports on climate research made by students around the world. Delegates attending the annual climate summits known as the COP conferences asked for more content each year, so a new multilinear format using GIS technologies was introduced at COP21, the climate conference held in Paris, where it was used by all signatory countries of the Paris Accord in implementing climate action plans for their respective nations.
The project was later officially adopted at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Marrakech, Morocco in 2016 as an official education and outreach program under Article 6 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. In this capacity, it is currently used as a data delivery system for the delegates attending the COP conferences as a resource in their policy creation sessions.
The project was created, curated, and maintained by Mark Terry, an Adjunct Professor at York University and Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada. Dr. Terry is also the author of the book The Geo-Doc: Geomedia, Documentary, and Social Change, published by Palgrave Macmillan.
